What is Power Yoga?

Power Yoga (open to all levels) is a general term used in the West to describe a vigorous, fitness-based approach to vinyasa-styled yoga focused on strength and flexibility. Most power yoga is closely modeled on the Asthanga style of practice. The term "power yoga" came into common usage in the mid 1990s, when several yoga teachers were looking for a way to make Ashtanga yoga more accessible to western students. Unlike Ashtanga, power yoga does not follow a set series of poses.

Outdoor HOT Power Yoga (open to all levels) is a traditional Power Yoga class in the warmth of the Texas summer! Bring Water and a mat. Inclement weather: class will be held at 4237 Caruth Blvd.

Jivamukti Yoga (open to all levels) Jivamukti is a vinyasa style practice and classes can be quite physically intense. Each class has a theme, which is explored through yoga scripture, chanting, meditation, asana, pranayama, and music. Attend class at the Jivamukti Yoga School in New York, and you may find your mat next to such Hollywood and music industry celebrities as Gywneth Paltrow, Christy Turlington, Russell Simmons, and Sting – all devotees of this method. Jivamukti appeals to those who want a good workout and more, since a healthy dose of chanting and philosophizing accompanies each class.

Intro to Yoga (beginners or those looking for technical instruction) runs in a 4 week series and students may join any time during the month and will receive technical posture instruction. The series covers standing postures, forward bends, back bends and inversions and links the series together to form a vinyasa yoga practice. This class is suitable for new students to yoga and practitioners who would like technical asana instruction to deepen their understanding of yoga asana.

Outdoor HOT Yoga Bootcamp (open to all levels) will focus on strength and flexibility within the power style vinyasa yoga practice. This class will work on isometric strength training isolating different areas of the body to build steady muscle strength and flexibility. The class will be Hot depending on the heat of the Texas summer! Inclement weather: class will be held at 4237 Caruth Blvd.
